Riparian Restoration Project

The City of Defiance has received a grant from Ohio Lake Erie Commission Funding to assess the riverbank along the Maumee River for riparian restoration efforts, which could include rock reinforcement and native plantings along this stretch of the Scenic River. In the next several weeks, this site assessment will be taking place on land located between East River Drive and the Maumee River from the area near the boat dock at Pontiac Park to the intersection with East High Street.

These initial assessments are an important first step in laying the groundwork for future embankment improvements and restoration actions. Riparian restoration contributes to a healthy habitat for native wildlife, protects our water quality, and supports continued community access to our waterfront. This project which will build upon work completed in 2018 with GLRI funding.
